But considering that Styx were a late 70s/early 80s progressive rock band, I can only assume they took their "robots in the future" storyline very seriously - a mistake that, thankfully, The ArchAndroid does not repeat. Production for the album took place at Wondaland Studios in Atlanta and was primarily handled by Monáe, Nate "Rocket" Wonder, and Chuck Lightning, with only one song without production by Monáe. The ArchAndroid, despite it being 10 years old, still feels ahead of its time, like much of Janelle’s discography.
This time around, the story's protagonist (one Cindi Mayweather) discovers that she is a Messiah-type figure - the titular Archandroid - destined to lead an oppressed people to freedom away from the oppressive forces of Metropolis.
