But considering that Styx were a late 70s/early 80s progressive rock band, I can only assume they took their "robots in the future" storyline very seriously - a mistake that, thankfully, The ArchAndroid does not repeat. Production for the album took place at Wondaland Studios in Atlanta and was primarily handled by Monáe, Nate "Rocket" Wonder, and Chuck Lightning, with only one song without production by Monáe. Janelle Monáe's The ArchAndroid immediately dazzles you with its ambition. It looks like we don't have any Plot Summaries for this title yet. Lyrics hint at her savior nature (“It’s your time/Lead us all back to one/You’re the one”) and her growing confidence (“I can make a change/I can start a fire”). The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III) follows Cindi as she deliberates over her true love for Sir Greendown and her increasing recognition of the need to save the city. The ArchAndroid, despite it being 10 years old, still feels ahead of its time, like much of Janelle’s discography.
This time around, the story's protagonist (one Cindi Mayweather) discovers that she is a Messiah-type figure - the titular Archandroid - destined to lead an oppressed people to freedom away from the oppressive forces of Metropolis. It looks like we don't have a Synopsis for this title yet. GA Review. It’s cinematic, it’s engrossing, it’s ambitious and it’s unlike anything else – the perfect distillation of Monáe herself. Thus, The ArchAndroid evokes artists like Kate Bush, Madonna, Michael Jackson, James Brown and Simon & Garfunkel while connecting to everything from The Who’s Tommy and Quadrophenia to Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly and Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon series.
